In the heart of the busy Fifth District, Café Kör is ideal for lunch or dinner when touring nearby St. Stephen's Basilica, although it's best to go early, since the place enjoys a loyal local following. Attracting students, ex-pats, and upscale natives, Cafe Kor feels pleasantly Mediterranean in its orange hues and bentwood furnishings. We thought this was our discovery but sadly there were two woman from Southern California dining at the same time. A historic café in the castle district, the Ruszwurm has been open since 1827. The pastries and cakes are the big draw – a great variety of buttered dough, strudel, round pastries and cakes, which are all displayed in a case or on the counter as you first walk in.

I also read it's frequented by a lot of expats and tourists, but is still a great place to eat. Budapest for its real local feel—not a lot of English spoken, cash only, menu on a chalkboard. I’ve eaten here every time I’ve been in the city and haven’t had a bad meal yet.
