Panerai luminor submersible history

This new watch was the first professional military underwater watch in history. It combined water-resistance with another feature which made it truly unique in its field: the powerful luminosity in the dark, which meant that the dial was perfectly legible even in the most extreme underwater conditions in which the Italian frogmen operated. SUBMERSIBLE was created, and appeared in the film DAYLIGHT.The actor asked PANERAI for a limited edition (200 pieces) with a white dial, called DAYLIGHT, as well as a personalised series of the MARE NOSTRUM.The full history of the Officine Panerai Luminor, one of the most iconic watches ever created. From the Luminor Reference 2553 and Reference 3646 dating back to 1936 to the Luminor designed in 1950 (reference 6152-1). From the first Luminor presented to the public in 1993 (reference 5218-201/A) to the models created for Sylvester Stallone - the Luminor Submersible Slytech (5218-205/A) and Luminor Daylight (5218-207/A) - and the worldwide Paneraimania phenomenon.

Giovanni Panerai (1825–1897) founded Officine Panerai in Florence, Italy in 1860.[5] By 1900, under the leadership of the founder's grandson Guido Panerai (1873–1934), Officine Panerai had become an official supplier to the Regia Marina (the Royal Italian Navy), supplying watches and precision instruments.

Look past its encyclopedic name and you’ll find a mashup of features that make this piece perhaps the most capable timekeeper the venerable Italian instrument maker has produced.

History - Panerai

My favorite of which is this PAM00305 (PAM305), also known at the Luminor Submersible 1950. In addition to being Panerai's first exhibition back diving watch it also has a face without a number 12. This is the first time I have seen this on a Panerai watch, though I am admittedly not a Panerai superfan like some people out there.

Submersible 1950 Carbotech 3 Days Automatic, a mouthful to say, is no exception. The Luminor Submersible 1950 3 Day models are identifiable by the peg markings on the uni-directional bezel, which is based on a 1956 design made for the Egyptian Navy. Luminor 1950 case incorporating a black ceramic bridge that protects and seals the winding crown. The case is sculptured from sandblasted black ceramicsynthesized from zirconium oxide powder.

In the spirit of the 2010 Luminor Submersible in bronze, Panerai is today introducing a new Submersible with a case made of carbotech, a composite based on carbon fiber that, unlike the 2010 model, will not be tarnishing anytime soon. Due to the production process of the material, no two Carbotech Submersibles will be the same.
