Airports x ray machines

X-rays are like light in that they are electromagnetic waves, but they are more energetic, so they can penetrate many materials. The machine used in airports usually is based on a dual-energy X-ray system. Transporting illegal items through an airport is not easy these days, unless you have someone on the inside helping you out. That would in most cases be the best thing, even though it involves trusting someone with that kind of info about what you are going to do. The backscatter x-ray devices were subsequently removed from U.S. airports, though the millimeter devices remain. Simulscan, an Italian company that offers computer-based x-ray screening training, provided an inside look at the screening process when it gave us these photos.

CEO Roberto Sergnese was a security expert at Continental, PanAm, and American Airlines before starting the company.
