Panerai Radiomir was originally produced for the Italian Navy during the Second World War and is renowned for its durability, excellent readability underwater and a unique mix of classic appeal and modern technological innovation. Powered by mechanical movement, it has all the iconic Panerai features such as a cushion shaped case and oversized Arabic and index hour markers, although most models do not have the trademark crown protector.
The first Panerai prototypes watches were presented in 1936, developed for the First Submarine Group Command of the Royal Italian Navy. Known as “Radiomir”, this model was characterized by large cushion-shaped stell case (47mm), wire lugs welded to the case, luminescent numerals and indices, which were designed to perform underwater missions effectively.
