Consider the following situation: You’ve overclocked your CPU, set the core voltage (Vcore) to some reasonable number, and then it’s time for some stress testing to make sure your rig is stable. You follow all the standard recommendations that you can find on overclocking forums: you run Prime95 for 12-24 hours, do a few hours of FurMark, and a few hours of IntelBurnTest for good measure. Stability testing is perhaps the most debated part of overclocking. Some say you are not fully stable unless you prove it by running Prime95 with AVX for two days straight. I have compiled a set of stability tests to show the consistency of the overclocking experience offered on multiple Z170 series motherboards.
Over time I hope to continue to expand upon this less to include newer boards as they are released.Overclocking these CPUs is simply a matter of stepping up the multiplier. Of course it isn't quite that simple, as you will need to watch how much voltage you push through these CPUs, and also that stepping up the voltage and clock speed will inevitably produce more heat.

Although your computer may boot safely into Windows after increasing your multiplier, the only way to know if your overclock is stable is to perform a stress test. There are several great choices out there, but the very simple Prime95 is our preferred software for stress testing your CPU.
Stress test software: You must stress test to ensure your overclocked processor is stable and safe. Prime95, LinX, and AIDA64 can help out (some prefer to run more than one and compare results). In the past Haswell chips have been known for its low overclock results past 4.2GHz. Raise your memory speeds back up towards their initial levels.
Do this slowly, stress testing as you go.

LinX can cause your CPU to overheat. With modern CPUs this should not cause any damage, but please be aware that we accept no responsibility for any damaged hardware.
Most graphics cards have a bit of room to overclock with, and one way to do it is through with MSI afterburner (it does work with more than just MSI cards). First you need to download it. On the bench today is the MSI Z97 MPOWER MAX AC, MSI’s top end Z97 of the MPOWER line. The Z97 MPOWER is geared toward the enthusiast overclocker and provides features that they will benefit from.
In order to see what difference overclocking might make I decided to perform a simple benchmarking test. To do this I created a Python script that would perform a set task and work the CPU.

Often on Windows we encounter random freezes and lags, while gaming or performing intensive work. Furmark to crash is a graphics card overclock which is too aggressive. If you have overclocked your video card you”ll need to back off a bit on your overclock in order for your video card to be stable.
